Oldies but Goldies

Some ``special guests'' from our NTT observations in the early 90's: a tidal encounter and several spiral galaxies.
(I always present the reduced photometric image (left) and an adaptively Laplace filtered version (right) to visualyze the inherent structure.)

The fascinating tidal encounter between the barred spiral galaxy NGC 2207 (left) and the ocular shaped spiral IC2163 (right). The image is a composite of 6 observations in the I-band. tidal encounter encounter structures
Another barred galaxy: NGC 1365 - member of the Fornax cluster. It is a wide spiral with a very strong bar and contains more than 15 x 109 sun masses of HI (Jörsäter & Moorsel, AJ 110 (5), 1995, p. 2037). Three I-band frames have been added to get the image. NGC1365 NGC1365 structures
NGC 2227 - a sum of 3 B-band images. Although, first only classified as a simple spiral galaxy (Sc), the Laplace filtered version showes the inner bar and signs of a ring in agreement with the recent classification as SB(rs)c spiral. NGC2227 NGC2227 structures
NGC 1406, classified as SB(s), looks rather irregular in the inner part. This is a single image of 300 sec exposure time in the B-band. NGC1406 NGC1406 structures
to be continued ...
