Dynamo
Dynamo is a computer code by Detlef Elstner (Astrophysikalisches Institut Potsdam) that solves of the induction equation with turbulent electromotive force (alpha tensor) for modelling of turbulent dynamos in planets stars and galaxies.
Dynamo stellar flipflop
Explaining the flipflop phenomen by a stellar dynamo
The figures below represent the flipflop cycle at 3 different times. The colors represent the magnetic field strength on the surface.
Video that shows the flipflop cycle for another model:
AVI (12 MB).
MPEG (1 MB).
Colors again show the field strength on the surface.
Task farming: The Dynamo Use Case
Dynamo serves also as an example of similar scientific applications for the eScience group at the AIP, which is part of AstroGrid-D.
A demonstration has been made by the eScience group, showing how a scientific application can be run on multiple grid resources.
