 The AGW Units

The AIP is developing and building a total of six wavefront sensing and guiding (AGW) units for the LBT. The two first units will be used in the bend Gregorian foci, while the four other units are for PEPSI. The units for the bend Gregorian foci will also be equipped with so called on-axis wavefront sensing units (build in Italy) for control of the adaptive secondary mirrors.

The off-axis unit is to guide on reference stars as faint as R=21mag found in the vicinity of the science target, as well as to measure the wavefront in low-frequency intervals to support the active-optics system.

The two units for the PEPSI polarimeters are copies of the design of the units developed for the bend Gregorian foci, but without having an on-axis module build in.

The guiding and wavefront sensing CCD for the AGWs is a front illuminated frame-transfer E2V CCD57-10 with an active size of 512x512px, storage area of 512x512px, pixel size of 13 micron, ron of 2.0 electrons rms, QE is 45% at 700nm.
