2009-Oct-09-11: successful commissioning at CAHA
The AIP has acquired expertise in design and development of instruments and data reduction software for 3D spectroscopy since 1997. With the projects "Potsdam Multi Aperture Spectrophotometer" (PMAS), designed and built in-house - in routine operation as user instrument at the Calar Alto 3.5m telescope since 2001 -, and ULTROS for ultra-deep optical 3D spectroscopy, new methods have been developed for crowded field spectroscopy and PSF-fitting. As PI-institute of the EU funded Research Training Network Euro3D (2000 - 2005), the AIP became one of the leading institutes in promoting 3D spectroscopy in Europe and training of young astronomers. Our recent key projects are:
  • Development and assembly of the MUSE Calibration Unit
  • Development of the MUSE data reduction pipeline
  • Participation in development and test of the VIRUS IFUs
  • Participation in development and test of the VIRUS data reduction pipeline
  • Alignment and test of the 24 spectrograph detector units for MUSE (midterm task)
  • Participation in the development of the software package IQLAC (Instrument verification,
Quick Look Analysis and Calibration) for NIRSpec on the JWST observatory
