High-resolution spectroscopy and polarimetry
The development of high-resolution spectrographs couples solar and stellar physics and focus on the determination of magnetic fields. The instruments will be used in connection with the STELLA telescopes, the LBT, and GREGOR.
PEPSI Potsdam Echelle Polarimetric and Spectroscopic Instrument for the LBT. Two polarimeters - one on each telescope - will provide light for the determination of all four Stokes vectors in a common spectrograph.
SES at STELLA The STELLA Echelle Spectrograph (SES) is a fiber-fed white-pupil spectrograph with a fixed wavelength format of 390-860nm. Its heart is a modern R2 grating currently enabling a spectral resolution of 55,000 at an entrance aperture of 1.7". A E2V42-40 CCD records 100 spectral orders simultaneously. The entire spectrograph is located in a temperature-controlled environment to provide very high stability.
GREGOR at night A 1.5m Gregory Telescope for Solar Research on Tenerife. GREGOR will also be used for spectroscopy of bright stars.
