On 28/29th of May, the first science program using WiFSIP, the STELLA open cluster survey has been started.
This is the first image of Mel 111, a very sparse open cluster in Coma Berenicae. Exposure time was 28.3sec in Sloan r', open-loop tracking. Focussing is done using a small sub-window centered around the brightes star in the image, producing a focus series where the maximum of the kurtosis is searched. Currently, this takes 5 minutes, but improvements down to less than one minute will be possible once a reliable temperature-focus model has been established.
