HOTEL 'AN DER RENNBAHN' ----------------------- Without notice, the hotel 'An der Rennbahn' has changed its name and owner on March 15 (now 'Ambassador'). At present, there are still 8 rooms free which can be reserved. ARRIVAL ------- The AIP is located in Babelsberg which is part of the city of Potsdam. FROM TEGEL AIRPORT TO AIP / POTSDAM-BABELSBERG We will be present at the meeting point of the airport to give you directions to Potsdam on Saturday and Sunday, 14:00-18:00. To get to Potsdam-Babelsberg take bus number 109 and ask for an 'ABC' ticket which is valid for Berlin and Potsdam (2.70 EUR). If you buy from a machine, you have to put it into a special box for a time stamp. Get off at 'S Charlottenburg'. The stops are announced on a display in the bus. Walk to Charlottenburg station (~ 3 minutes) and take the train S7 in the direction to 'S Potsdam Hbf.' Get off the train at Babelsberg after 25 minutes. Leave the station in the direction the train went. The hotels 'Vivaldi', 'Unicat', and 'Filmhotel Lili Marleen' are in walking distance from here. Take bus number 694 in the direction 'Stern-Center' or 'Kepler-Platz' to reach the AIP and get off at 'Sternwarte' after 5 minutes. FROM SCHONEFELD AIRPORT TO AIP / POTSDAM-BABELSBERG A foot path with roof leads to Schoenefeld station (400 m). Go to the platform indicating S9 and buy an 'ABC' ticket from a machine. Get a time stamp from special boxes there. Take the train S9 and get off at Alexanderplatz after about 35 minutes. From the same platform, take S7 in the direction 'S Potsdam Hbf.' [NOTE: S9 INTERRUPTED ON JUN 23 AND JUN 24! SEE UPDATED INFO] and get off at Babelsberg after another 42 min. Leave the station in the direction the train went. The hotels 'Vivaldi', 'Unicat', and 'Filmhotel Lili Marleen' are in walking distance from here. Take bus number 694 in the direction 'Stern-Center' or 'Kepler-Platz' to reach the AIP and get off at 'Sternwarte' after 5 minutes. Take bus no. 694 in the direction 'Stern-Center' or 'Kepler-Platz'. Get off the bus at 'S Babelsberg' for the 'Filmhotel Lili Marleen'; get off at 'Rathaus Babelsberg' for the hotels 'Vivaldi' and 'Unicat'; get off at 'Sternwarte' to reach the AIP; or get off at 'Fontanestr.' to get to 'Ambassador' ('An der Rennbahn'). CONFERENCE LOCATION ------------------- FROM 'UNICAT', 'VIVALDI': Choose bus line No. 694 in the direction 'Stern-Center' or 'Kepler-Platz' (same street side as hotels). Get off at 'Sternwarte'; It takes only a few minutes. It takes about 15 minutes walking. The opposite direction for leaving the institute is 'Hauptbahnhof' (Potsdam main station). There are various busses and trams to get in any direction of the town from there. FROM FILMHOTEL 'LILI MARLEEN': Choose bus line No. 690 in the direction 'S Babelsberg' (other side of street) and go a few stops to this terminal stop. Cross the street and go through the rail road bridge. Choose bus No. 694 in the direction 'Stern-Center' or 'Kepler-Platz'. Proceed as above. It takes about 30 minutes walking. FROM 'AMBASSADOR' (FORMERLY 'AN DER RENNBAHN'): Walk up Reuterstrasse to get to the tram and bus stop 'Fontanestr.' (about 3 minutes). Take the bus no. 694 in the direction 'Hauptbahnhof' and leave at the 7th stop 'Sternwarte'. FROM 'APART': If you stand in the street facing the main entrance, walk to the left to Rosa-Luxemburg street. Turn to the right and walk uphill until you reach the AIP (about 15 minutes). HOW TO USE THE BUS ------------------ Tickets are available from machines inside the bus. You need a normal Potsdam 'AB' ticket. These are different from (and less expensive than) Berlin 'AB' or 'ABC' tickets. Each stop is indicated in the bus. Once the right name lights up, press one of the 'STOP' buttons to let the driver know you want to get off. 'STOP' or 'HALT' should light up. BUS NO. 694 ----------- This bus will be the most often used during the THINKSHOP. It connects the AIP, Babelsberg station, and Potsdam main station. You can bring your own laptop computer for your talk. We will also have both a Windows and a Linux computer at the lecture hall for PDF, Powerpoint or OpenOffice files (on a memory stick or CD-ROM). In the case of Powerpoint or OpenOffice, make sure you do not use special fonts or sym- bols which may not be available here. Use only 'Arial', 'Times', and 'Symbol' in PowerPoint. Note that animations (other than animated GIF) are usually lost when not provided together with the presentation file. Posters can have a maximum size of A0 (47 x 33 inch) portrait orientation. They are shown where the coffee and lunch breaks are.
