The HES area is defined by 373 fields. For 372 of these objective-prism plates have been taken with the ESO 1m Schmidt telescope. As the ESO-Schmidt has been decomissioned in December 1998, the remaining plate, for field 151, will not be taken. As of January 1999, 341 plates (92%) have been scanned and reduced in Hamburg. The digitization is expected to be finished in mid-1999.
