Planets in other solar systems (exoplanets) are very common; on average, every star has roughly one planet. However, the types of exoplanets that exist in our galaxy can be very different beasts compared to our solar system planets. We'll go for a field trip in the exoplanet zoo and take a look at some exotic species like Hot Jupiters, Mini-Neptunes, and Super-Earths. The research of my new group here at the AIP deals with star-planet systems and their evolution, and I will give an overview on how stars and planets can influence each other and what we can learn with current and upcoming observing facilities. In particular, I will talk about new results on how stellar magnetic activity changes for aging stars, interesting effects of strongly irradiated planets, and some considerations on the search for life in the universe.
