DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Elena Asencio (University of Bonn)\nTitle: The classi
cal Milky Way satellites are perturbed by the Milky Way tides\nAbstract: M
ost of the Milky Way classical satellites are known to display signs of ti
dal disturbance (e.g. tidal tails\, asymmetries in their density distribut
ion\, squashed shapes\, etc.). However\, this cannot be explained in the s
tandard model of cosmology (LCDM) due to the fact that\, for this framewor
k\, the self-gravity of these satellites is too strong for them to be affe
cted by the Milky Way gravitational tides. In this work\, we demonstrate t
hat most of the classical satellites are expected to be tidally perturbed
in MOND and that their degree of (observed) disturbance is generally in go
od agreement with MOND expectations. Since gravitational tides can also en
hance the velocity dispersion of the satellites\, we argue that MOND is co
nsistent with the high velocities that Júlio et al. 2025 found for some o
 f the classical satellites.\n
