The first\, spectacular images of the ther mal dust continuum emission has revealed that such discs host a plethora o f substructures\, most notably in the form of gaps and rings\, and sometim es spirals\, usually interpreted as the signposts of forming planets. Seco ndly\, the high ALMA sensitivity has allowed to obtain complete samples of continuum (and line) detected discs at low resolution\, allowing to perfo rm population studies of discs. Finally\, in the latest few years a whole new window has been opened thought high angular and spectral resolution ob servation of line emission from several chemical species\, allowing to exp lore the disc kinematics with unprecedented details.
