DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Andrea Afruni (University of Florence)\nTitle: St
udying the baryon cycle through observations\, models and simulations\nAbs
tract: The flows of gas in and out of galaxies\, part of the so-called bar
yon cycle\, are a key ingredient of galaxy evolution. However\, many of th
eir properties are to date still not known\, both from an observational an
d a theoretical point of view. In this talk\, I will present our recent re
sults obtained from the combination of different modeling techniques (from
empirical to semi-analytical models\, informed by the results of state-of
-the-art hydrodynamical simulations) with various types of tomographic dat
a of the cool/cold circumgalactic and interstellar media of galaxies at re
dshift lower than 1. I will show how\, combining models and data through B
ayesian inference\, we have been able to refine our picture of the cool ma
terial surrounding galaxies and to better understand the origin and fate o
f this gas and what is its link to the central galaxy itself.\n
