ssions of Resonant dynamics in Classical and Quantum systems\nAbstract: Al
ice Quillen will illustrate rich connections between classical and quantum
expressions of chaos\, adiabatic drift\, resonance capture\, sensitivity
to control parameters and information loss. A method for predicting chaot
ic behavior used in galactic dynamics and celestial mechanics has a quantu
m equivalent. A sensitive classical chaotic perturbed system inspires a q
uantum sampler. Quantum systems with divided phase space are described w
ith a classical adiabatic limit and resonant capture probability but are a
lways susceptible to transitions into superposition states.\n

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Giuseppe Lodato (Università degli Studi di Milano St
atale | Milan\, Italy)\nTitle: Ten years of protostellar discs with ALMA\n
Abstract: The advent of ALMA has deeply transformed our view of planet for
ming discs in several respects. The first\, spectacular images of the ther
mal dust continuum emission has revealed that such discs host a plethora o
f substructures\, most notably in the form of gaps and rings\, and sometim
es spirals\, usually interpreted as the signposts of forming planets. Seco
ndly\, the high ALMA sensitivity has allowed to obtain complete samples of
continuum (and line) detected discs at low resolution\, allowing to perfo
rm population studies of discs. Finally\, in the latest few years a whole
new window has been opened thought high angular and spectral resolution ob
servation of line emission from several chemical species\, allowing to exp
lore the disc kinematics with unprecedented details. In this talk\, I will
show how the combined use of the three advances above has allowed a deepe
r understanding of the structure and most importantly of the evolutionary
processes that take place into the disc.\nNote: Host: Steven Rendón Restr

\nTitle: Exploring the impact of stellar variability in high resolution sp
ectroscopy through observations and simulations\nAbstract: High-precision\
, high-resolution spectroscopy is a powerful tool for confirming and chara
cterising exoplanets\, but variability on stellar surfaces can contaminate
these measurements. In this talk\, I will provide an overview of the wor
k my group is performing in this area. I will show our most recent efforts
studying granulation on Sun-like stars using 3D stellar atmosphere simula
tions across a range of stellar lines in the optical. We also use spectros
copic observations of transiting planets to spatially resolve stellar surf
aces. I will share our analysis of the WASP-85 A system\, where we use the
transiting planet to spatially resolve the surface and isolate the proper
ties of an occulted starspot. Finally\, I will discuss our use of high-res
olution cross-correlation spectroscopy to characterise exoplanet atmospher
es and examine how stellar surface variability can bias these measurements
through forward modelling.\nNote: Host: Katja Poppenhäger\n

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Alessandro Morbidelli (Observatoire de la Cote d&#x27

y disk: combining observations\, simulations and cosmochemical constraints
\nAbstract: Observations of protoplanetary disks with ALMA have revealed a
large diversity of properties\, but also some common tendencies in terms
of dust/gas density and radial extension ratios\, as well as the appearanc
e of features like rings and gaps or cavities. It is too late to observe t
he proto-solar disk\, but many of its properties can be inferred from the
current distribution of planetesimals and using cosmochemical constraints
on the chronology of planetesimal accretion and the isotopic heterogeneity
of the disk. I will review the available data which can be used to recons
truct the proto-solar disk. The view that emerges is that of a quite stand
ard disk of about 90 au in gas radius and 45 au in dust radius\, forming p
lanetesimals at two distinct epochs (one of which very early\, while the d
isk was presumably still in Class-0 or Class-1 stage) and evolving towards
a transition disk at the appearance of Jupiter and Saturn. Similarities a
nd differences with the PDS70 disk will be discussed.\nNote: Host: Oliver

riors of massive star clusters are among the most dynamically active envir
onments in the Universe\, where frequent gravitational encounters continua
lly reshape stellar orbits and determine the fate of both stars and their
host systems. In this talk\, I explore the consequences of this evolution\
, from gradual processes such as mass segregation and cluster evaporation
to dramatic events including core collapse and the possible formation of i
ntermediate-mass black holes. I will outline the dynamical models used to
describe these systems and show how they incorporate cluster evolution whe
n searching for evidence of these elusive black holes. Finally\, I will su
rvey the rich population of stellar exotica produced by repeated encounter
s\, including blue stragglers\, millisecond pulsars\, and binaries compose
d of stellar remnants and luminous companions. In this context\, one cruci
al question is whether dense star clusters the primary factories of the bi
nary black holes whose mergers we now observe through gravitational waves.

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Sebastian Kamann (Liverpool John Moores Universit
y)\nTitle: Wempe lecture 3 “Young massive star clusters: Treasure chests
of stellar evolution”\nAbstract: The colour–magnitude diagrams (CMDs)
of star clusters underpin stellar astrophysics. They calibrate stellar ev
olution models\, enable age-dating of stellar populations\, and provide te
mplates for interpreting unresolved galaxies. Yet the CMDs of young massiv
e clusters show surprising features\, such as split main sequences and ext
ended turn-offs. This raises the question of whether we truly understand t
he mechanisms governing stellar distributions across the CMD.\nIn this tal
k\, I will show how binary interactions and stellar rotation reshape CMD m
orphologies. Using observations of young massive clusters in the Magellani
c Clouds obtained with HST and MUSE\, we measure the spin velocities of la
rge stellar samples and characterise the clusters’ binary populations. O
ur results reveal distinct populations of slow and fast rotators occupying
different loci in the CMD. The detection of post-interaction binaries\, s
uch as blue stragglers and stripped stars\, further enables us to constrai
n population synthesis models and to assess the contribution of massive st
ar clusters to the cosmic rate of compact binary mergers observed via grav
 itational waves.\n

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Nic Scott (Georgia State University (The CHARA Array)
)\nTitle: Recent technical and scientific highlights from the CHARA Array\
nAbstract: The Center for High Angular Resolution Astronomy (CHARA) Array
is a six-element interferometer at Mount Wilson Observatory with baselines
ranging from 34 to 331 m. The Array hosts a number of new or upgraded\, s
ix-telescope beam combiners that span the spectrum from the visible R-band
to the near-infrared K-band with a range in available spectral resolution
. The most recent are the Silmaril beam combiner that is a three-telescope
instrument for H- and K-bands that is designed for very high sensitivity
on fainter targets and the CHARA Array Integrated Optics Testbed (CHARIOT)
that is a platform for characterizing integrated optic combiners. A seven
th\, mobile telescope is now on-site for use with fiber optics for H-band
beam transport. The mobile telescope will extend the baseline range from 2
0 m to 579 m\, creating new opportunities for measurements of stars with l
arge and small angular diameters. Observing time is available to the commu
nity through a program funded by NSF. The observing programs are solicited
  and peer-reviewed by NSF's NOIRLab.\nAbout Dr. Scott:\nNic Scott is the T
elescope Systems Scientist at the Georgia State University Center for High
Angular Resolution Astronomy (CHARA) Array. Nic directs all aspects of co
ntrol and development of the telescopes\, enclosures\, and relay optics of
the seven CHARA Array telescopes. Nic received dual PhD degrees from Geor
gia State University and the Observatoire de Paris for his work on a novel
fiber optics beam combiner at the Array. Prior to his current appointment
at CHARA\, Nic was a Lead Research Scientist at the NASA Ames Research Ce
nter where he developed speckle interferometry cameras for the WIYN\, Gemi
ni-North\, and Gemini-South telescopes. Nic is currently leading the integ
ration of the CHARA Array Integrated Optics Testbed (CHARIOT) experiment t
o provide a flexible station in the beam combining laboratory to character
ize novel integrated optics combiners.\nNote: Let me know if you want to m
eet Nic. He will be at AIP until 14.05.\n
