These planets are thought to strongly interact with their host stars through intense irr adiation\, tidal forces\, and interactions with the magnetized stellar atm osphere and wind in which they orbit. Can we leverage these interactions t o better constrain the properties of both the planets and their host stars ? In particular\, can we use them to probe planetary magnetic fields?\nIn this talk\, I will report on recent progress made through the ongoing ExoM agnets ERC project at CEA Paris-Saclay. I will first review the observatio nal evidence for star-planet magnetic interactions (SPMI) and present a ne w\, unambiguous detection in the HD 189733 system\, as well recent attempt s in detecting such signal in radio. I will then present new modeling effo rts designed to capture the complex connectivity and energetics of these i nteractions.\nThe classical interpretation of SPMI attributes stellar chro mospheric hotspots to wave-driven energy deposition. I will present detail ed modeling of how this process unfolds and what it implies for stellar ac tivity tracers. However\, the observed high emission levels challenge this classical scenario. Drawing a parallel to Comet Lovejoy in the solar syst em\, I will show that SPMI may instead act as a trigger for pre-existing s tellar active regions.\nFinally\, I will discuss the impact of SPMIs on th e exoplanets themselves. Specifically\, these interactions can induce sign ificant Ohmic heating in upper atmospheres\, altering temperature profiles and atmospheric escape rates. JWST MIRI MRS and NIRSpec IFU ob servations of three BAH galaxies reveal molecular and ionised gas outflows and indicate that shocks are the dominant mechanism exciting the warm H2. These results are complemented by the analysis of a larger sample of ~60 nearby galaxies using archival MIRI MRS observations. AGNs exhibit broader emission lines than star-forming galaxies (SFGs)\, with the largest veloc ity dispersions found in radio-strong AGNs. H2 is generally less turbulent than the ionised gas\, while coronal-line emitting gas exhibits even high er velocity dispersions. Taken together\, these results point to shock hea ting as an\nimportant mechanism shaping the kinematics and excitation of t he ISM.
