Dr. Andreas Kelz

Andreas Kelz is head of the 3D- and Multi-Object Spectroscopy programme at the Leibniz-Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP).

After graduating in physics at the Technische Universität Darmstadt, he obtained his PhD degree in astrophysics at the University of Sydney in Australia in 1999.

Since 2000 working in Potsdam, Andreas Kelz undertakes research and development of astronomical instrumentation for  international observatories, with the aim to spectroscopic analyze and scientifically study the evolution of stars and galaxies.
Andreas Kelz is actively involved in the research and development of state-of-the-art astronomical instrumentation. Most of these instruments are 3D- or integral-field spectrographs, that combine spectroscopy and imaging, and multi-object spectrographs, that enable large astronomical surveys. Often these instruments involve optical fibre technologies. The past and present projects are mostly done in international consortia and for major observatories (such as ESO, HET, LBT, CAHA, ..)
