Allar Saviauk

I'm a mechanical engineer part of the technical section at (AIP). I received my degree (M.Sc.) in Jena in a field of Scientific Instrumentation. Before joining the team at AIP in 2013, I was gaining experience in astrophotonics (IAP, Germany), semiconductor industry (Okmetic, Finland), optics, astronomy and atmospheric sciences (Macquarie University, Australia) and in astronomical instrumentation (AAO, Australia).

At AIP my main work is development of state-of-the-art astronomical instrumentation. This includes general mechanical design, development of highly sophisticated opto-mechanical systems, development of optical fibre systems, tolerance analysis, testing and structural verification including finite element analysis.

The major part of my work is related to development of the 4-metre Multi-Object Spectroscopic Telescope (4MOST). Once completed in 2023, it will be installed on the VISTA telescope in Chile. In the 4MOST project I'm responsible for the 4MOST system model, telescope modifications and interfaces together with the 4MOST project office.
