The building was extended to allow for storage space, mostly for the empty transport boxes for optical and mechanical parts.

The building is designed for hosting two telescopes: STELLA-I in 2004 and STELLA-II in 2005.

The observatory building has a roll-off roof instead of a conventional dome.
