Gyrochronology: a journey to the ages of cool field dwarf stars

The word "gyrochronology" is a neologism that dates to 2003, and describes a procedure for deriving the ages of certain stars from their rotation periods and colors, the latter a simple proxy for stellar mass. The path to this knowledge will be outlined. The talk, leavened with personal anecdotes and perhaps too many pictures, will share some of the excitement and wonder of the related journey to discern the ages of cool field dwarf stars.
