Special Seminar | Hans Zinnecker (Universidad Autonoma de Chile)

Speaker: Hans Zinnecker (Universidad Autonoma de Chile)

Title: High-mass star formation - some key questions

Abstract: I will discuss a few questions related to high-mass star formation (M>16Mo, main-sequence O-type stars), such as formation mechanisms, multiplicity and IMF, and their occurrence in the Galactic nuclear star cluster around the supermassive black hole Sgr A*. Time permitting, I may also comment on historical and future observations of visual and spectroscopic OB-type binary and multiple stars, including the discovery of the ISM in 1904 in Potsdam.
Hans Zinnecker had led the star-formation group at AIP from 1995 till 2010, before he became the deputy director of Science Mission Operations of the SOFIA Airborne Observatory. After his retirement, he moved to Chile. In conjunction with the Astronomical Society meeting, we were able to schedule this talk at short notice.
