Dr. Alexey Mints

Alexey Mints is an expert on catalog data processing and statistical method in astronomy. He participates in the Gaia DPAC project and works on the software development and validation of Gaia data in crowded regions, e.g. in the Magellanic Clouds, Galactic star clusters, and the Bulge.

He graduated from St. Petersburg State University (Russia) in 2003, and obtained a PhD there in 2008. In 2009-2010 he worked at the University of Bielefeld (Germany), where he was developing the Interstellar Meteoroid Model software (IMEM). In 2012-2013 he was working at Jacobs University Bremen and Hamburg Observatory (Germany), contributing to LOFAR pipeline. He then moved to AIP, Potsdam (Germany), where he joined the ARCHES (url: http://www.arches-fp7.eu/arches/) project, developing the ARCHES Integrated Cluster Finder (url: http://serendib.unistra.fr/icf) and Cluster catalogue. In 2015-2019 he worked in the SAGE group at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Goettingen (Germany), where he developed the Unified tool for Distance, Age and Mass estimation (for stars), (url: hhttp://www2.mps.mpg.de/homes/mints/unidam.html) and derived age estimates for over five million stars. He also produced selection function estimates for a large sample of public spectroscopic surveys.
