Title: Studying the baryon cycle through observations, models and simulations
Abstract: The flows of gas in and out of galaxies, part of the so-called baryon cycle, are a key ingredient of galaxy evolution. However, many of their properties are to date still not known, both from an observational and a theoretical point of view. In this talk, I will present our recent results obtained from the combination of different modeling techniques (from empirical to semi-analytical models, informed by the results of state-of-the-art hydrodynamical simulations) with various types of tomographic data of the cool/cold circumgalactic and interstellar media of galaxies at redshift lower than 1. I will show how, combining models and data through Bayesian inference, we have been able to refine our picture of the cool material surrounding galaxies and to better understand the origin and fate of this gas and what is its link to the central galaxy itself.
