Title: Novel Optical Fibers

Abstract: Recent advances in optical fiber design and fabrication are opening new opportunities for controlling light propagation and tailoring optical properties. Novel optical fibers are attracting growing interest across a broad community of researchers and engineers. A comprehensive understanding of their potential can benefit from a thoughtful examination of their scientific and empirical development, their unexpected properties, and their practical limitations.
This seminar will explore these developments and open a discussion on how the distinctive properties of novel optical fibers could be exploited in astrophotonics, with particular attention to their potential use in devices for light collection, filtering and beam combination in astronomical instruments.
