Institute structure
The AIP is a foundation according to civil law of the state of Brandenburg and is a member of the Leibniz Association. The AIP is funded institutionally by the state of Brandenburg, other states, and by the federal German government.

Governance
Executive Board of the institute
The Executive Board executes all business for the foundation. It prepares sessions for the Board of Trustees and administrates its decisions. The Executive Board accomplishes all tasks that are not explicitly assigned to other supervisory bodies.
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees decides on overall research objectives and on important political and financial issues of the foundation.
It supervises the legitimacy, purposefulness and economic efficiency of the business management done by the Executive Board.
Science Advisory Board
The Science Advisory Board, whose members are external scientists, gives advice to the Board of Trustees and to the Executive Board in all major scientific and technical issues. The Science Advisory Board compiles proposals and recommendations concerning areas of research in the institute and the related work scheduling. It periodically evaluates research accomplishments and work schedules.
