At the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP), people not only of different nationalities but also of different sexual orientations or identities work closely together. On Pride Day Germany 2022, the AIP visibly shows to the outside world how a respectful and tolerant working atmosphere is lived at the Babelsberg campus.

"The AIP respects the personality of every individual and rejects any form of discrimination. In the life of the institute, no person may be discriminated against on the basis of gender, ethnic or social origin, age, disability, sexual orientation or identity, religion, world view or political opinion." The AIP has set itself this premise of an appreciative tolerant institute culture in the Code of Conduct. On Pride Day Germany 2022, which is celebrated on 7 July, numerous employees of the AIP came together to wear the colours of the rainbow to show the outside world that these words are lived out in everyday working life.

Only last autumn, the institute was once again awarded the "TOTAL E-QUALITY" certificate. This award is given to organizations in business, science and administration that successfully implement equal opportunities in their personnel and organizational policies. The reason given for the award was that the AIP has already implemented equal opportunities "in many fields of action" in astrophysics, a field traditionally dominated by men.

Pride Day Germany is taking place for the second time this year. The PROUT AT WORK Foundation invites companies and organizations to show their commitment to LGBT*IQ.

The key areas of research at the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) are cosmic magnetic fields and extragalactic astrophysics. A considerable part of the institute's efforts aims at the development of research technology in the fields of spectroscopy, robotic telescopes, and E-science. The AIP is the successor of the Berlin Observatory founded in 1700 and of the Astrophysical Observatory of Potsdam founded in 1874. The latter was the world's first observatory to emphasize explicitly the research area of astrophysics. The AIP has been a member of the Leibniz Association since 1992.
