Instructions for Authors

General

Papers published in Astronomische Nachrichten / Astronomical Notes (AN) shall present the results of original research not previously published. Articles submitted to AN should meet these criteria and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. All papers are sent to referees. There are no page charges. Authors should be aware about the Transfer of Copyright of all published papers and the possibility of ordering additional reprints/pdfs using the proofs form. Papers must be written in English. While a polished literary style is not demanded of scientific papers, they should conform to the elementary rules of grammar, syntax, and punctuation. The journal is published in an online only format. Each corresponding author will receive a PDF file for 50 printouts of his contribution free of charge. Reprints (at least 50 copies) or a PDF file for an unlimited number of printouts can be purchased. See general author guidelines for further details.

Preparation of Manuscripts

Only manuscripts written with the most recent version of the LaTeX2e style file can be accepted. The latter can be obtained by retrieving the following package: .

In case of major technical problems with the official LaTeX template given above, it is still acceptable to prepare manuscripts with the old AN LaTeX macro.

Papers have to be accompanied by keywords. These are published together with the paper and must be chosen from the current list of key words (up to five items).

Submission

  • The manuscript should be submitted electronically via the new web-based submission and reviewing system ScholarOne.
Please check first whether you already have an account. If you are unsure, go to the ‘Reset Password’ screen and follow the instructions. If you’re a first-time user, use the ‘Create An Account’ link to create an account. The system will then guide you through the submitting process.
Please make sure to upload a separate PDF, generated from the source files, as ‘Main Document’. At this stage, the source files are not required.
  • When submitting your revision, the source files should be uploaded using the File Designation "LaTeX files".
  • Detailed instructions on manuscript preparation and submission can be found in the document AN_Instructions_for_Authors.pdf .

For a transition period, submission via the old AN submission upload form or even by e-mail attachment to an@aip.de is still accepted.
