Training program: Electronics technician for devices and systems

The multi-faceted profession of electronics technician for devices and systems requires 3.5 years of recognised vocational training in the field of electrical engineering. Electronics technicians for devices and systems design, manufacture and maintain electronic assemblies, devices and systems. To do this, they read circuit diagrams and technical documents, select the required components and assemble them into functional devices. Activities include soldering components, programming microcontrollers, installing software and carrying out tests and measurements to ensure functionality. Accuracy and logical thinking are of great importance in this profession.

Vocational school

The training is carried out by two institutions within the framework of the dual system. The Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) as a company provides practical training. The vocational school (Oberstufenzentrum TIEM in Berlin) provides the theoretical training in block classes.

The training takes place in the Technical Software, Electronics, Detectors (TSED) working group, a group of Technical Section. Here, instructors and experienced colleagues are always on hand to provide advice and assistance. Electronics for astrophysical research are developed in an electronics laboratory equipped with modern instruments. The equipment built is used at various observatories around the world.

Available training positions

Since 2021, the AIP has been training this apprenticeship for the first time. One apprentice per training cycle can be trained at the AIP for the profession of electronics technician for devices and systems.
