Dr. Iva Vilović

My research examines how high-energy stellar radiation, particularly extreme ultraviolet (EUV) emission, shapes the atmospheres of exoplanets and influences their long-term habitability. Since EUV radiation is largely absorbed by the interstellar medium and cannot be observed directly, reconstructing a star's EUV emission using X-ray observations is essential for modeling atmospheric escape, one of the key processes governing whether a planet can retain its initial atmosphere long enough to set the stage for one that could later support life. By linking stellar physics to atmospheric escape, I explore the fundamental question of under what stellar conditions life could arise and be sustained on worlds beyond our Solar System.
