The AIP joins the Long Night of Astronomy 2025

The Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) will once again take part at the nationwide Long Night of Astronomy on 13 September 2025.

With a lecture by Dr Peter Weilbacher at the Zeiss Großplanetarium in Berlin and a contribution of a video live stream, the AIP is part of the programme to share the latest discoveries in Astronomy with the public.

The Long Night of Astronomy 2025 invites the public to enjoy an fascinating programme from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. that explores the wonders of the universe.

From exciting lectures and hands-on activities to live observations through telescopes. In addition to the AIP, other institutions from all over Germany will be joining the livestream starting at 7 p.m.

The Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) is dedicated to astrophysical questions ranging from the study of our sun to the evolution of the cosmos. The key areas of research focus on stellar, solar and exoplanetary physics as well as extragalactic astrophysics. A considerable part of the institute's efforts aims at the development of research technology in the fields of spectroscopy, robotic telescopes, and e-science. The AIP is the successor of the Berlin Observatory founded in 1700 and of the Astrophysical Observatory of Potsdam founded in 1874. The latter was the world’s first observatory to emphasize explicitly the research area of astrophysics. The AIP has been a member of the Leibniz Association since 1992.
