Research Projects

Research projects are for example long-term instrumentation projects or joint research projects with other partner institutes. In order to make them more visible to site visitors, for each research project with AIP participation at least one project page with a picture and a short description should be available in German and English. This can also just be a kind of "landing page" on which the link to an external project website is placed.

The project pages are not defined by section or research area, but centrally in the webapp. All section and group heads have the permissions to create, edit and publish research projects. Any other employee can also be granted the right to do so on request of a section or group head.

  • Login to the Wagtail Admin Interface.
  • Go to 'Research projects' in the left menu. You will get a list of the research projects already created.
  • Click on 'Add project page' (top right).
  • Fill in the fields, but at least one German and one English title of the project. The title should be kept as short as possible, as it will also be displayed in project lists along with the image or logo of the project and a short description. The 'Subtitle' field can be used for a more lengthy subtitle, e.g. to explain an acronym.
  • Add one or more AIP contacts to be displayed as contacts in the sidebar on the project page. This should not list all the people working on the project, but really only the main contact persons. If desired, a listed of all participants can be included in a text block in the project description.
  • Add involved AIP sections and groups. These links between project and sections will display the project on the project page of the corresponding sections.

Technically speaking, research projects are normal pages with special features. This means that they can be saved as drafts just like other pages, and revisions are created so that changes can be undone. It is also possible to create subpages, for example to explain more aspects of the project.

Managing projects with large subpages is more practical via the normal 'page view' of the project page. You can do this by clicking on the 'Explore more' button in the project list in the admin interface under the project. Alternatively, you can also search for the project page using the page explorer (Pages -> Home -> Research projects) or enter the project name in the search under the Wagtail symbol on the left side to find the corresponding page.

Sidebar

The information in the sidebar of the project page is added automatically, if the information is provided. This includes:

  • AIP contact persons, with phone number and E-mail address, if desired
  • contact E-mail of the project
  • PI of the project
  • Link to external project website
