Titel: Connecting the fastest stars in the Galaxy to exploding white dwarfs

Zusammenfassung: I will discuss the initial theoretical prediction and observational discovery of the so-called D6-white dwarfs that move through the Milky Way at velocities of 2000km/s, with the GAIA satellite. I will then connect them to recent progress in our understanding and numerical modelling of Type Ia Supernovae from double white dwarf systems and how their existence and properties constrain Type Ia Supernova progenitor and explosion models.
