Titel: The New Era of Lyman Alpha Emitters (LAEs): Efficiency of the selection criteria and typical histories of star formation in the ILLUSTRIS-TNG simulation
Zusammenfassung: The One hundred square degree DECam Imaging in Narrowbands (ODIN) surveyhad detected thousands of Lyman-α emitters (LAEs) at z=2.4, 3.1, and4.5 through the customized narrowbands N419 N501, N673 in sevenfields of the sky (Lee et al. 2024) up to 25.5 (AB). In this talk, Iwill review the results of two fields. TheSHELA field was also mapped in broadband with DECam, reaching g = r = 26.5 (AB) over 15square degrees, we detected ~15,000 LAEs using the double continuumselection criterion and analyzed theefficiency of this criterion as a function of broadband depth. If thebroad bands are one magnitude deeper than the narrow band up to 80%of them are found, while if narrow and broadband have equal depthonly 20% are detected. At greater depths, the detection gaincontinues but with diminishing returns. These results providepractical guidance for efficient observational strategies
fordetecting LAEs, suggesting that an optimal allocation time consistsof devoting comparable times to NB and BB, ensuring that each BBreaches ∼1 mag deeper than the NB. Inthe COSMOS field, it was possible to map extensively from 400nanometers to 10 micrometer 31 LAE at z = 2.4. Firestone et al.(2025) modeled their star formation histories (SFHs), finding that77% of these modeled LAEs follow a typical SFH, in which most of theLAE's activity occurs at the time being observed. In this talk, Iwill present the results of analyzing the SFH of LAEs in thecosmological context of the ILLUSTRIS-TNG100 simulation. Followingthe selection criteria described in Andrews et al. 2025, we select atotal sample of 6051 LAEs at z=2.0. Using the KMEANS algorithm, weclassified them into four distinct classes, comprising 35%, 33%, 21%,and 11% of the total sample. One of those classes is similar to themost
abundant class of Firestone et al. 2025, following thetraditional and historical definition of LAEs as low-mass, dust-poorgalaxies with a recent burst of SFH, but it is not the most prevalentSFH in the simulation, accounting for only 33% of the total selectedLAEs.
